Kites In The Bedroom

In both of my children’s bedrooms, I wanted to do something fun. In both cases, I simply took kites from World Market and hung them from the ceiling.

The kites are sold at World Market. They are $24.99 for the large ones. I always look for a coupon when I shop there (either 10% off or $10 off $30 purchase). They also had this cool Chinese Dragon one that would be neat hanging from the ceiling.

My son got the dragon kites. Two large ones. And one cute baby.

My daughter has the butterfly kites. Two babies and one large one.

They have held up remarkably well. I think they have been up for four years. I still think they look great.

They add an element of fun and complete the room for a reasonable expense.

Have you decorated with something unexpected? Please tell!

  1. Currently I have a collage of large frames, wreaths, and a pink unicorn bust hanging over my bed (I know). But I’d like to do a wall collage of things in varying sizes. Photos, yes, but also mirrors, paper fans, framed cards and artwork, etc. This tiny apartment is probably not the place to experiment with that, but it’s on my list. I also have chandeliers and candelabras. While they were fairly pricey pieces, changing them up for the different seasons is easy. They’re total statement pieces. I hang different colored paper garlands, crystal beads, ornaments, and flowers pins from them to change their look. Someday, I’d really like to decorate a high ceiling with tons of hanging do-dads: crystals, dreamcatchers, ornaments, dried flowers, fairies..ya know, stuff that a six-year-old would be all for. That’s me!

I think that dragons are sweet and fun. I would stare up at them before bed and hope for dreams of riding them through the clouds. 🙂

    • Hi Liz! Your bedroom sounds awesome! I am all for that. I keep thinking about the animal jewelry heads at Pottery Barn Kids. They would be perfect for our bathroom. But Christmas is coming. I must resist temptation.

Please post your chandelier pics when you get them ready for the holidays! I bet they will be amazing!

I think we are both dreamers. And there ain’t nothing wrong with that!

      Have a magical day!

  2. My husband and I haven’t been married for long, so we are still in the itty-bitty apartment stage. 🙂 I would love to decorate with some big, bold decor once we get some more money and a bigger place!

I could see these kite being so fun for a little kid to look up and see while lying in bed. I love the fun and unique things you can find at World Market!

    • Enjoy the time in the apartment. I look back on it with the fondest of memories. It is great to be young and in love! Enjoy it! : )

      Have a great night!

  3. Nifty idea! Love the stars on the ceiling too. I remember having a popcorn ceiling as a kid and imagining pictures as I stared up at it. Gosh, I just looked up at the ceiling in my apartment and it is a popcorn ceiling too. Never noticed until now. LOL

    • Okay! That is so so funny. I do not know why. But I just think it is. I do not know why people do not like popcorn ceilings. I have never minded them. And you are right, you can totally see shapes in them!

I think those stars will be there forever, because I am much too lazy to ever take them down!

Have a beautiful weekend. It looks like the weather is going to be great for you and I here in Southern California!

  4. I decorated my college dorm room with kites purchased at a similar store (well, whatever such stores existed a million years ago and were popular with college kids) and they lasted a million years! They were simpler but were lovely art and fanciful and fun! Great idea!

    • I love that you did that in college! So cool! I bet it made being away from home easier. I hope my kids like them. They really so not say anything about them. Thanks for the compliment! I try to be creative.

      Have a lovely Sunday!

  5. I had a similar style dragon that was about 15′ long above my dining room table in my old house. It looked really cool in the red room.

    • Oh my gosh! How cool is that?! I would love that so much. I love when imagination and daring take place in a room!

      Have a fun weekend!
