It’s The Little Things: Good Mascara

I am very spoiled when it comes to mascara. My mom always surprises me with a new one. It is such a treat. Recently she purchased me Benefit’s “They’re Real!” Mascara. I used it for a month. I was not convinced. But then I switched back to my old mascara brand and was appalled. “They’re Real!” Mascara was so much better.

I ordered myself another one from Sephora and have been a happy customer ever since.

This mascara is on the spendy side. It is actually the only expensive mascara I would say is worth it. I really have tried them all. Well, not really, but I have tried a lot. Benefit’s mascara is much better, in my opinion.

I have small eyelashes. I am tremendously jealous of the folks who were blessed with gorgeous eyelashes. I must be content to just enhance mine. I am by no means thinking people are going to think my eyelashes are so great they are not real. But they are much better than what I wake up with.

This does the trick. The best it can with what it has to work with.

If you do not want to spend that much money on mascara, I have ranked my favorites in order of 1-3. I also rated them based on what I have experienced with the products. The last two can be found at the grocery or drug store for much less and I think they work beautifully.

1. Benefit They’re Real! Mascara (9/10. The reason this gets a 9 and not a 10, is because it is hard to remove.)
2. Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion (the purple mold) (8.25/10: Easy to remove. Great application.)
3. Maybelline Great Lash ( in the pink case) (8/10: Also easy to remove. Does not produce as long of eyelashes as above products.)

4. (For good measure) Lancome Doll Lashes (7.5/10: Harder to remove. Good product the first couple of applications. Not as good after that. But produces better lashes than any of the other products the first few applications.)

It’s the little things: longer eyelashes. The ultimate quest fulfilled.

Have you tried this mascara? What is your favorite mascara?

* Again, this is simply my review. Your miles (or eyelashes in this case) may vary.

Edited to add at 9:45 a.m.: I recommend going to your local Sephora or make up counter for a sample size of the expensive mascaras or to test them out before purchasing a full size.

  1. Maybelline great lash is my tried and true. I am a creature of habit and have used this product for many many years. What I really can’t live without is my eyelash curler!!!

    • Hi Kerri! I used to use that mascara every day for fifteen years! It is a great mascara. Inexpensive, easy to remove, no clumping. Your eyelashes always look great! See you in a bit!

  2. I am a fan of the Lancome Doll Lash Mascara – it usually does a great job for me for several weeks. I agree with you it is harder to remove.
And $$$. Is Benefit They’re Real cheaper? I would like to check that out!

    • Hi Judi!

I checked it out, because I could not go based on memory alone. The Lancome Doll Mascara is $3 more than Benefit’s They’re Real! Mascara. Which, is not a lot if you are all ready paying so much for mascara, but is half the price of the cheaper mascaras (on sale).

I just edited my post to include saying, I recommend going and getting a sample size of the expensive mascaras to test them out before splurging. Or having it applied by a make up specialist in store. Then you can compare the two. It would be a shame to shell out so much money and not like the product!

Thank you so much for commenting. I very much appreciate it. I also think if the Lancome Doll Lash Mascara is working for you, you should stick to it. It is great to find a product that you love!

      Have a beautiful Thursday!

  3. I’ve been using the Lancome Doll Mascara. I never really thought about it but you’re right about it not being that “great” as time goes on. I will say that it washes off super easily for me (using Philosophy Purity Cleanser and water). I probably will try the Benefit (I love trying new products) and maybe it would be just as easy to wash off with the Purity.

By the way, your hair looks great! I love the color. 🙂

    • Hi Loraine! It is a great mascara at first. I just expect a lot for that much money. If you do try the Benefit’s brand, please let me know if the Philosophy Purity Cleanser works getting it off. Because it really is a hard mascara to get off. I am curious to know what works. I also really want to try that cleanser, I have heard so many good things about it!

      Have a great night!

  4. Maybelline Great Lash (pink case) is the one the works best for me. Plus, I can always find a coupon for it! I like your idea of getting a sample of the Benefit one! My lashes are thin and light and need a lot of help!

    • My good friend loves the Maybelline Great Lash. I actually think the Cover Girl one is better. And you can also find fantastic coupons and deals on it. I always keep a back up of it in a drawer. I hope you get a sample! I love samples. They make me weirdly happy! : )

      Have a great Friday!

    • Hi Lisa!

Thank you! And thanks for stopping by. I know how you feel! I need all the help I can get! I guess I will have to count my blessings for other things. Well, like… I can smell anything. It is a true gift. Sorry, I am delirious with exhaustion! ; )

      Have a great weekend!

  5. Thanks for sharing this Jenni!
I’m always on an look our for good mascara so I’ll have to give this one a try.
I like the Dior Diorshow Mascara!! It’s also on the expensive side but it lasts a long time 🙂

    • Hi Sayaka,

Okay, that is one I have not tried. Yet. Now I must. I love trying them all. I think mascara is the one item of make up I could not live without. I think I might have yo admit to a new addiction! Uh oh! ; )

      Have a perfect Friday!

      • Jenni, you have got to try “Smokey Lash” by Makeup Forever. That is the best mascara I have ever used and I’ve only been able to find it at Sephora. Its pricey but worth every penny. It comes in waterproof and non waterproof. During certain times of the year, it also comes in a variety of colors. 😉

      • Thank you Sherry! I just wrote this down! I will try to get a sample first, if I can. I like non waterproof. But the other colors sounds very intriguing. Hmmm. That might be quite fun! Okay now I must find this!

Thank you for the recommendation! Have a lovely week!
