From The Abyss

Let us take a break from the new and admire the old. I have so many favorite pieces in my closet. Dresses are my everyday attire. I only own three pairs of jeans. Seven, if you count colors. I own one pair of capris and absolutely no shorts. I just feel more feminine in a skirt.

I wanted to share some older pieces with you guys.

This is one of my top ten favorite dresses in my closet. I reach for it time and time again. It is from Anthropologie. It is from last summer. It is called Flared Caraz Dress. It has the most beautiful colors and pattern. And it also has a small layer of tulle. You cannot see the tulle, but I know it it there. Which makes me feel secretly more girly. The necklace was gifted to me by Simply Livly on Etsy.

This skirt is at least eight years old. I bought it from Anthropologie before my son turned two and now he is ten. I weighed forty five pounds more then than I do now. The tag is missing from the skirt. So, I do not know what size this is. I thought if I belted it, I could get away with wearing it. I am not so sure, in retrospect, that it worked.

But I wanted to wear it, so I did. I paired it with another older Anthropologie shirt. I think this one is five years old. It is white eyelet. It, too, was large. When I was heavier, I would wear it untucked over jeans. Now, I just tuck it in.

And this dress has history. I once had a friend who had a dress just like this one. It was the only time I have ever copied a friend. I loved it so much on her. She has since gotten rid of hers. But I still love mine. It was from Kohls on sale for $17 six years ago. I paired it with some Anthropologie wedges and my Simply Livly turquoise necklace.

Do any of you keep your clothes forever? I do, if I truly love the piece. What is your favorite “oldie” from your closet? Mine is… Hmmm… I can’t decide.

  1. Hi Jenni!

I looove that blue skirt on you! So pretty!

I have skirts from Anthropologie that date back to 2000. I don’t think I will ever get rid of them or get tired of wearing them. Today I was taking pictures with a skirt from 2010 – the Gaillardia skirt from Ric Rac – green with blue flowers. But my absolute favorite is a red and blue chevron striped Corey Lynn Calter from Anthro – 2001. Antrho skirts are so unique and lovely!

    • Thank you!

Okay, here is the deal… That skirt sounds amazing. And I am probably not the only one who wants to see it. Please post pics of it on your blog or reader outfits on Effortless Anthropologie. Please! Please! I love looking at older pieces. : )

      Have a great night!

      • LOL – You got it! I submitted the Gaillardia skirt pic for Reader Outfits. I’ll do the Corey Lynn Calter next. My only problem is that I am not very good at styling tops with these skirts and end up wearing the same 3 navy blue tanks over and over. Oh boy, I will have to put my styling thinking cap on!

      • Awesome! I cannot wait! And as far as the tank top goes, I say if it works, do it! I love easy! I enjoy wearing things that I know I can easily pull together. Of course, it is also fun to go crazy! ; )

I am looking forward to your outfit pic tomorrow!

        Have sweet dreams!

  2. I own the Waiting for Poems Sheath from Anthropologie from 2008 or 2009. It was one of the first pieces I ever bought from Anthro, and it’s my favorite, favorite dress ever. When I got married last year, there was no question as to which dress I’d wear for our engagement pictures. I have never seen anything like it, and I try not to overwear it, but pretty much every Facebook picture of me at a special occasion shows me in this dress.

    • Oh my gosh! I looked that up. It is so gorgeous. I had not seen it before. I bet that was so beautiful for that night. The colors look sweet, soothing, and feminine. Perfection!

Thank you for sharing! Have a fantastic weekend!

  3. I love all of these outfits and the accessories you paired with them! I’m in the process of selling some of my oldies from Anthro which are now too small (or I give them to my daughter). Have a great weekend, Jenni!

    • Thank you, Lorraine. I hope your daughter is doing well. I am with you on paring down. I am collecting a pile of clothes to photograph and sell on Effortless Anthropologie that are too big for me now. I need to move along.

Have a great weekend! I hope it is great for you!

  4. Oh Jennie I love all these dresses on you! I can’t possibly chose a favorite but the Caraz Dress is pretty amazing on you!! The colors look so beautiful on you!!

    • Thank you so much Sayaka! I actually wore that dress again today to a baby shower. It was so much fun! So thank you! I think I remember that you own this dress, too. But you got a fabulous deal on it! Am I right? I remember thinking it was cute on you.

      Have a great Sunday!

  5. Jenni! I love that first dress on you – you look so cute that it makes me want to tickle you, is that weird? 😛
You totally get away with wearing that skirt, it’s impossible to tell it’s too big because you disguise it with the wide belt – but how about getting it taken in professionally? That last dress is also so pretty on you, I can see why you’ll never get rid of it.
Hm, I have a LOT of clothes I will never get rid of – I just can’t remeber the names very well, but the yellow polkadot Mellora dress from last year will stay with me forever, that’s for sure! And so will my zola bear dress, my sunblaze lace skirt and take flight tank – and those neon pink jeans… like seriously, I plan on wearing these things until they fall apart, and then like, cry for a year. 😉

    • I agree with you on all of your clothing choices you are keeping forever. And I will cry with you if those pink pants disintegrate, because they are so great.

I am such a dork. I did not even think about getting it taken in. Doh! The belt rose up during the day and the skirt fell down. So, I need that option.

Thank you for the compliment. I think that that Caraz dress should be in every girl’s closet. It is so fun. I love it. Is that okay to say?

And I am so ticklish. I have not been tickled in years. Is that weirder? ; )

Have a gorgeous week! I hope the weather gets better for you!

      Jenni
